Our vineyards in the Kaiserstuhl region
Welcome to our vineyards on the Kaiserstuhl...
...a fascinating region of volcanic origin that rises prominently to 557 meters above sea level from the Upper Rhine Plain, marked by the "Totenkopf" (Death's Head) peak. It is covered by a fertile layer of loess, the height of which you can see impressively through the remaining "Hohlgassen" (hollow lanes) as you explore the heart of the Vogtsburg community. Numerous nature reserves and the slopes maintained by the winemakers make the Kaiserstuhl a gem, where biodiversity and viticulture go hand in hand.
Here, wines mature that capture the spirit of this captivating nature, as well as the passion and care of the people, in every bottle.
Our grape varieties
Our grape varieties belong to the typical Burgundy varieties that have been cultivated in the Kaiserstuhl region since the Middle Ages. These are Grauburgunder, Weissburgunder, and Spätburgunder, which you also know as Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Noir.
Chardonnay, an exciting cross with a Burgundy parent, also finds its place on the Kaiserstuhl.
Currently, we passionately dedicate ourselves to the cultivation of Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay, from which our wines originate.
Scheibenbuck
The place where our Pinot Gris grapes thrive.
When you stand at the “Scheibenbuck” in the district of Oberbergen at 342 meters above sea level, the panoramic view opens up from the Kaiserstuhl, stretching beyond the Rhine plains to the Vosges mountains in the French Alsace.
The vineyard plot is a hot and relatively dry location, which depending on the weather, can pose a challenge for the plants and grapes.
Breite
The sun terrace for our Chardonnay grapes.
Situated at an elevation of 334 meters above sea level in the valley between Oberbergen and Altvogtsburg, this vineyard plot lies in the middle of a large terraced area that was established in the 1960s. From there, you have a view of the Badberg and Haselschacher Buck nature reserves. Behind you stands the Totenkopf, the highest point of the Kaiserstuhl, recognizable by the distinctive "Fernsehturm" (television tower), as it's called by the locals.
The Breite location indulges the vines with the morning sun, allowing the Chardonnay grapes to soak up the sun they love all day long.
Leh
Here, our Pinot Noir grapes mature.
The "Leh", situated at an elevation of 301 meters above sea level, is a part of Oberbergen's vibrant history. In the late 1970s, an extensive land consolidation effort created more manageable vineyard areas. The sun accompanies the vines and their Pinot Noir grapes from morning until late afternoon. From the Leh, your gaze can wander from the Badberg and Scheibenbuck to the center of Oberbergen.
